Year 4 have been reading “Fly eagle fly” and looking at African culture. This term in Art, we have focused in drawing and modelling a clay eagle. First we made study pencil sketches of the subject and learnt drawing techniques such a hatching, cross hatching, accent lines to add tones to the animal and make it look real. Then we modeled the clay animal and children understood the tools and supplies needed to get started in clay modelling. They they created a base (rock) where the clay model will stand, shaped the eagle and make each detail of the clay eagle, such as eyes, beak and claws. Finally they provided realistic textures to each surface, like the feathers, skin and rock.
