In year 6, our core text for this term is Wolf Brother by Michelle Paver.
At the end of chapter 2, our main character (Torak) must make a decision. Should he kill the wolf cub he has found or leave him alive?
Today, we discussed reasons for and against Torak killing the wolf cub.
Jethro, Kipling Class: “I think Torak should kill the wolf because otherwise he might starve to death.”
Cinar, Rowling Class: “I think Torak should not kill the wolf because the wolf could help him get to the mountain (something he promised his father. Also, if the bear comes, the wolf could help him defeat the bear.”
We then had a conscience alley, where pupils stand either side and argue reasons for and against. A few members of the class took on the role of Torak:
Sabrina, Rowling: “When I was in the role of Torak, I was unsure which way to go and I felt confused, as even though I had my own opinion, both sides were really persuasive.”
We are excited to read Chapter 3 to find out what Torak decides to do!
