Welcome to Houndsfield a large, three form entry primary school in Edmonton, supporting a multi-faith community, with children aged 3 – 11 years. Houndsfield has wonderful children, who are well behaved and keen to learn. We have approximately 700 children from Nursery to Year 6.
Here at Houndsfield the children are encouraged to explore and develop their creative and musical talents and we are lucky to have enthusiastic specialist subject teachers in art, music and MFL to enable them to do this. Our ICT is state of the art and provides children with a range of technological learning experiences.
The children are given the opportunity to appreciate nearby facilities such as the local library, leisure centre and the park, which we are lucky enough to have right on our doorstep. Other trips are also arranged throughout the year, such as visits to museums, theatres and the seaside.
We have an extended range of before and after school clubs which the children can access, as well as some for our parents and staff. Whether you enjoy sports, or would like to join the adult Steel Pan group or staff choir, there’s something for everyone (see our website for more details).
Our building is huge!! – a 4 floor Edwardian building dating back to 1903. Houndsfield Primary celebrated its centenary year in 2013 and looks forward with great excitement to the next 100 years, at least!!
Over the past few years the school has undergone a large programme of refurbishments including a dance studio, conference room and a number of extra learning spaces. However, we are continually improving the look and facilities and this has recently included state of the art sound and staging equipment in our newly decorated Large Hall and we have a super new addition to our buildings – The Park Suite. This is where our Yr 5 & 6 children learn, in a mature and responsible manner.
We have recently developed our garden areas which include a beautiful meadow area with wildlife pond, a nature trail and our vegetable beds/allotments where the children learn about growing their own food. They have the opportunity to learn more about caring for animals at our ‘animal farm’. Our premises will shortly be enhanced further by a floodlit all-weather sports pitch.
We were visited by Ofsted in January 2013, who looked at all aspects of our school environment and awarded us the grade of ‘Good.’ Houndsfield has also achieved the Leading Parent Partnership Award, Healthy School Award, Basic Skills Award and Sustainable Travel Award. We are also a newly accredited expert centre for the Global Learning Programme and host network meetings on a regular basis.
