Start of the Day
Classroom doors open at 8:30 and children are greeted by a familiar adult. After hanging their coat up, children will be able to choose to complete a quick activity whilst they wait for their friends to arrive. There is always another adult in the class and many children will use this time to share their stories from home.To encourage independence, children self-register themselves.
8.30am – 8.55am – Children arrive, self-registration and ‘Soft Start’
8.55am – 9.00am – The register is taken and children say if they are packed lunch or school dinner
9.00am – 10.00am – Literacy – Children have weekly guided reading and writing opportunities and literacy skills are always linked to a weekly book or topic.
10.00am – 11.15am – Morning Free Flow Session – The session is child initiated where they can choose from a variety of activities to do inside or in the outdoor area. Children learn to make choices, decisions and carry them out. Adults carry their observations and interact as appropriate with the children.
Teacher Led – During each Free Flow session, the Class Teachers call a different focus group of children to do learning activities with. This gives opportunities for memory development and communication, language and literacy.
11.15am -11.45am – Phonics – Children have a daily phonics lesson and are taught through the Letters and Sounds Programme.
11.45 am – 1.00pm – Lunch
1.00pm -1.05pm – The afternoon session begins with registration and the opportunity to share good (or concerning) parts about their lunch-time.
1.05pm – 2.00pm – Maths – Children have a daily mathematics carpet session to develop early numbers skills including counting forwards and backwards to 20 and recognition of numbers 0-100. They learn to add and subtract practically, recognise shapes and use a wide range of mathematical language. They are encouraged to solve practical problems involving every day and real life maths.
2.00pm – 2.45pm – Afternoon Free Flow Session
2.45pm – 3.15pm – Assembly/Topic/Handwriting/Story Time
3.15pm – 3.20pm – Children are getting ready for Home Time
End of the day
After a busy day, children end the day with a story and have time to reflect on their day.The day ends as it began, children will be bid farewell by their teacher and look forward to returning the next day!
