A day in the life…
Welcome 8.30 – 9.00am
Children arrive from 8.30am and are greeted by the Terrific Twos team with a smile. Children come in to take part in some settling in activities. These usually consist of small world play, drawing and playdough.
Introduction Activity 9.00- 9.30am
Our planning is based around books and the interests of the children and therefore our introduction activities usually involves engaging the children with an interesting story through drama, props and silly voices.
Child initiated play and focus activity 9.30 -10.30am
A number of activities are set up around the room to support the children in reaching their early learning goals. A couple of these activities will be focus activities where the teacher will work with the children in supporting them to complete the activity to the best of their ability. Some examples of these are;
- Fine motor activity – Playdough gym (focus activity)
- Creative activity- finger painting
- Maths activity – Sorting coloured ducks into bowls (focus activity)
- Water tray – ducks and sea creatures
- Sand tray – different size containers to fill and empty
- Small world – farm animals and pond with ducks
- Story sack – the book and props for children to explore
Communal snack time 10.30 – 10.40
All children will get a snack that is usually a piece of toast or a piece of fruit and a drink of water. All children are expected to sit nicely when having their snack and use this time to talk to their friends. Sometimes a story or song is sung at this time.
Outdoor learning 10.40 – 11.10
The children love to go outside and experience the different areas we have to offer in our playground. The children can count using our giant abacus, dig in our mud kitchen, splash in our water area, ride the trikes, build tall towers using the blocks, search for bugs and make music in our music area.
Special session 11.10 – 11.30
In the Terrific Two provision we are all about offering the children with new and exciting experiences. We therefore like to take the children to the school’s farm to visit the animals and learn a little about them and sometimes hold some of the animals. We also love to have guests to visit us and recently had Mr Wells, the music teacher visit to teach the children some songs and involve them in playing along using different types of percussion instruments.
Home time 11.30
All of our children enjoy coming to the Terrific Two provision here at Houndsfield and are often sad to leave at the end of the day.
